Press Review - Motown Magic Dance Party for the www.whiterocksun.com by Barbara Ann Senft aka Dovey
Although I was hoping to be there, unfortunately I could not make it, and my thanks to Barbara Ann Senft aka Dovey for writing the following review of this evening of music and fun:
Hosted by: BC Live Music Preservation Society; Featuring: Glen Pearson: Guitar,Singer; Gordie Pearson: Singer; Kelli Mitchell: Singer and Percussion; James Badger: Drums; Larry Pardau: Bass; Bob Wishinski: Keys; Leo Dann: Saxaphone with Eric Stuber on Sax as well.

Upon entering Sullivan Hall, one notices the stage set up for serious entertainment! "Peacock Blue" & Twinkling lights set the atmosphere for our enjoyment. The energies from past musical events swirl around us, as the band tunes up getting ready to start the dance party! The crowded dance floor lends credence to the crowd's enjoyment of the music flowing around the hall. We were treated to tunes from artists such as: Wilson Pickett, Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Etta James, The Temptations, Sam & Dave. Many other artists music were included in the flavor of the evening. David "Guitar" Gates....took on the guitar responsibilities for the moving rendition of Soul Man (November 4, 1967: Sam & Dave hit #2 with “Soul Man”). sung by Glen Pearson. "Play it Dave!" During the last set of the evening, Thedda Marie graced the stage with her rendition of BB King's "Woke up this morning". To close the evening's musical journey, Jason Buie joined the band with his way of playing "Hear That Guitar Ring", sung by Glen Pearson, written by Jack Lavin, Founder of Powder Blues.
An enjoyable evening was had by all in attendance!
____________________________________________ MUSICAL THOUGHTS - The Magic of Music
written by Doug E. Lachance http://www.whiterocksun.com/
Although I've never been motivated to play an instrument, for as long as I can remember music has been a passion in my life. No matter what has been going on in my life, music has always taken me away to a magical place where reality gets suspended and nothing seems important except the song I'm listening to and the people I'm enjoying it with. In life it seems almost everywhere one might go, who you are and what you do determines whether you are welcome or not. With music everyone leaves their story at the door and you only have to want to be there to be welcomed in. Live music is perhaps the only place that exists in the world where everyone, regardless of race, color, or creed belongs, is at peace, and has something in common with everyone there - the music. But that's only part of the magic. Music is the key that unlocks some of life's most significant memories. Music truly is: "The soundtrack of our lives." (Dick Clark) If you think back to a person or a time that was important to you, I would bet you anything that there is a song that if you heard it would instantly take you back to that moment with a vivid memory complete with the emotions you felt at the time. Sometimes with great happiness, and sometimes great sorrow but always with the comfort that you're not alone no matter how you're feeling. I also love the way a song can turn back the clock and make me remember to be young again. Personally, I like music from all over the world and believe it's the only true international language. I don't have to know the words to a song. I can tell a love song in any language if I hear it, the longing in the voice, and the wistful music is unmistakable and anyone who knows me at all knows that a good beat will get me moving whatever the words might be. Having the passion for music that I do without ever playing an instrument, I can only imagine it's power if you love to play. How could you want to do anything else? Whether you're one of those who had the courage to follow their passion and make music their life, or simply someone who loves to play for the joy it brings you and us, since the beginning of time the world has been a better place with the gift of your music.
